I’m 70+ and in a running club. These days I arrive home from Club Night and say I was way behind the main group but at least I’m out running. Consistency is key - keep turning up, enjoy it all. Things can only get better for Louise.

Also … UK visitors to USA World Cup are reporting back that USA folk have been so friendly and kind. Everyone was expecting foreigners to be treated with hostility. Food portions are enormous though.

Soft shell crabs are the best! I may have lost my beloved husband but I did manage to get the summer curtains hung and water my roses. Now that I'm cooking for one I'm following your lead and making my menu list for the week. Tell Louise I was a champion miler in swimming because though I was slow at the shorter distances I was the only one who could finish a mile! Happy Summer!

I enjoy reading the comments on your page. I really like how all the women commenting today are so encouraging about Louise's swimming! This is a truly nice thing to see. I get the feeling many of us know of girl struggles and yet somehow survived. I listen to Michael and Joanna every week, and he recently said a cardigan he wears reminds Louise of a Nazi symbol or something like that. I cracked up. There's your little swimmer!

I grew up with line-dried laundry and agree wholeheartedly, until a bird poops.

Have been wondering about that.

After spending a month in Provence where no one uses dryers, I fell in love with clotheslines again and have been hanging all my laundry outside ever since!

And yes please, I would love to follow along on your renovation project.

My fashionable, architect friend put her very long table under the sunroom windows most of the time and it was a handsome project table. For dinner parties, she pulled it out to seat 12 or more. I thought you might like the idea, and you have to think of it when choosing chairs. Please show us what you decide!

From Edinburgh. Things you may need. 1. An architects triangular ruler to scale drawings. I am sure there is a name for them. I use one even now. Weekly. Remodel is now 4 years in my rear view mirror. 2. A large trapper notebook. A 3 incher. Fill it with clear sheet protectors. Save it all for now. Drawings. Just organize now. 3 a long term box to retain samples and keep parts that come with the materials you’ll accumulate. I have found parts in there from door handles that looked like plastic junk. They fixed hardware issues and I was grateful I kept it ALL. ( this is long term issue stuff). 4. Stuff comes with papers and all. Keep a file on it where you can fetch it for future repairs. Washing machine to vent hood to medicine cabinet. One day you’ll need it and as digital answer is not the way to start the repairs.

Finally. Decisions in the end are the most critical. They happen all day whether you are there or not and they are usually critical. They exhaust. Those two words along with the joy of having a great home still remain years later. And. DO NOT LET OTHERS MAKE THEM FOR YOU. That means your time will for this project be spent mostly at home. Or at least consider what will happen if you are departing the scene when the work team is there.
